Shoes For Standing All Day – Tips For Sore Feet
The biggest problem with using shoes for standing all day is why we get sore feet. We pay good money for good all day shoes and good walking shoes and we expect to have comfortable shoes for standing and still we get sore feet by the end of the day.
Her are a couple of tips I have learned over the years about why having the right support for the foot is so critical for people who are on their feet all day like me.
All shoes have built in elastomer substance of some type and when they get compressed from standing or walking all day, the elastomer substance needs time to recover and so the heavier you are, the longer time in between wearing of shoes should be allowed.
You have heard the saying when you first purchase a pair of shoes that you need to break them in. This is because the shoe will take on the impression of your foot and the shape of your foot and this will make the shoes more comfortable as time goes on.
This is true. HOWEVER.
It is this built in elastomer substance of every shoe that also becomes the problem.
A foot is not flat like the bottom insole of a shoe. So the pressure points of your foot, heel, big toe joint, side of the foot, toes, etc. all take the weight and press into the bottom of the shoe.
This makes the shoe feel more comfortable as the foot has more support.
However, what is really happening, is that the pressure spots are really becoming compressed and what happens when something becomes compressed?
The material becomes harder.
Therefore, you are no longer walking on soft shoes and the pressure points of the foot are now walking on hard spots.
The only recourse for this is to give the elastomer substance of the shoe time to return to its original shape, much like a memory foam of a mattress.
Take an extra pair of comfortable shoes for standing all day with you to work or a pair of comfortable walking shoes that will give you the best shoes for work if you are on your feet all day and change them when you feel your feet getting sore or tired.
As every foot is not flat it is therefore necessary to provide more support to the ligaments in the arch of the foot so the foot has the support it needs to be properly balanced.
This is done by having an arch support inside the shoe to give the Plantar Fascia Ligament which holds up the arch of the foot a place to rest. The Plantar Fascia Ligament of a healthy foot does not touch the floor when standing normal. It is slightly raised which gives the foot the spring it needs when running and walking.
Over time this Plantar Fascia Ligament gets weak from over use or lack of proper nutrition and it stretches which allows for the arch to drop. This then results into flat feet syndrome.
To correct this condition, arch support insoles are placed into the bottom of the shoes and holds up the ligament to give it support and to balance the foot again.
I hope this has helped in your choice of choosing shoes for standing all day and now your feet will enjoy your shoes.
